   The Legend Gorge MTB Challenge

Information

Route Description: The race commences on the 7000 ha upper escarpment with its craggy mountainous sandstone cliffs that drops approximately 2000 feet to the lower escarpment. A variety of single & jeep tracks challenge competitors with a fair amount of rocky hill climbs, followed by steady downhill’s and the odd energy sapping sandy area. Riders then take on the infamous Yellow Wood Gorge, dropping 1800 feet to the lower escarpment facing yet another challenge with the big five in the ever changing environment of dense bush, grass and wetlands. One more challenge awaits you as riders yet again take on Yellow Wood Gorge crossing the finish line at Ravineside Lodge - Truly the stuff legends are made of!

Entries will also be allowed on the day of the challenge. One entry form per challenge. All routes will be marked and marshalls will be placed at strategic points. Spectrum Sport Timing will do the timekeeping of all the events. Prize giving will be held once all the races have finished.

The Stuff Legends are made of ...

The 30 and 70 kilometre challenges will traverse diverse Big Five country, with the added thrill of game spotting while the adrenalin kicks into gear through a landscape which changes dramatically from lush bushveld to savannah plains and wetlands. A highlight of the ride is the 2 km Yellow Wood Gorge which sees bikers travelling at a 35 degree angle and more, down from the Upper Escarpment dropping 1000 feet to reach the Lower Escarpment (and back again at the end of the race). This event is sanctioned by SA MTB.

Strict measures will be taken to ensure cyclists’ safety and comfort during the respective challenges.
